This project management development dip consists of 2 x 3 hour sessions that provide a range of different tools and concepts in planning and managing projects, which will help employees utilise all resources effectively and productively.

Development Dips are 2 x 3 hour snappy, high octane development sessions that act as a introduction to a development topic. They are either run back-to-back on one day or delivered as half days to suit your needs.

The programme is as follows:
Session One - 3-hour session
Defining Project Management
- Delegates discuss with the trainer what is meant by project management and the different skills that are required by a project manager
The Structure of the Project Management Process
- The trainer will provide an overview of the project management process and explain the different elements. Delegates consider the process in line with the mini projects that they manage
Planning a Project
- The trainer outlines the different elements involved with planning projects including:
- Identifying the resources required and the total costs
- How to structure the project into different elements
- Setting project objectives and outcomes
- Agreeing project milestones
Stakeholders
- Identifying key project stakeholders, their impact on the project and their motivations
Practical
- Delegates use the techniques and models covered during the session and apply them to plan a short project which is appropriate to their roles
Summary of Learning
- The trainer summarises the key learning points from the session
Session Two - 3-hour session
Monitoring and Control Projects
- The trainer provides input on various methods to monitor and control projects to ensure that they are implemented on time and within the agreed budget. This will include:
- The importance of monitoring and control
- Critical path analysis
- How to use Barr and Gantt charts to best effect
Communicating Updates and Giving Feedback
- Delegates discuss the best methods of providing updates and feedback to stakeholders depending on their involvement / interest in the project. The focus is very much on what objectives and outcomes have been achieved either to date or on completion of the project
Evaluating Project Successes
- The trainer provides input on how to evaluate the successes / shortfalls of a project and how to record information for the next time. Delegates will also discuss the importance of being objective and consistent when evaluating project outcomes
Summary and Action Planning
- Commitment to doing things differently as a result of the sessions
