Development Dips are 2 x 3 hour snappy, high octane development sessions that act as a introduction to a development topic. They are either run back-to-back on one day or delivered as half days to suit your needs.

The programme is as follows:

Session One - 3-hour

Sword and Shields

  • The trainer introduces the concept of Sword and Shield and delegates explore whether they work to their strengths or weaknesses. The link is made between how this can impact on the individual’s effectiveness and style

Personal Values

  • Delegates are made aware of their own individual values and how these shape their behaviours when dealing with other people. Values will also shape the perception that other people have and the assumptions they might make
  • Links are also made to the organisation’s values

Personal Motivators

  • The trainer outlines the London School of Economics motivation model and discusses that individual motivators might change depending on situations but values remain the same. Delegates explore what motivates them and how this again impacts on other people

Self Projection

  • Delegates explore what other people can see about them and how they might project themselves better. This is achieved by an exercise which asks delegates to prepare a brief for a ‘dating agency’ about themselves
  • Delegates compare people’s perception with the reality

Summary of Learning

  • The trainer summarises the key learning points from the session

Session Two - 3-hours

Intention vs Perception

  • The trainer leads a discussion about situations where delegates may have communicated and other people have misinterpreted. What led to the misinterpretation? What methods of communication / medium were used?

Choices and Consequences

  • Delegates explore the concept of ‘choices and consequences’. What choices do delegates have in terms of how they project themselves to others and what impression / messages do they want other people to have of them? What is their individual game plan?

Inner Dialogues

  • The trainer provides input on how Inner Dialogues can dramatically impact on our effectiveness. Delegates explore their own ‘self talk’ statements about themselves, others and situations and examine whether these are assisting in their personal effectiveness or not. Delegates explore where these have come from and how they might change them for a better impact

Summary and Action Planning

  • Commitment to doing things differently as a result of the sessions
