a little bit of magic

the community housing group

The Community Housing GroupThe Community Housing Group successfully provides homes and an ever expanding range of housing related services to customers across the Wyre Forest District. Currently they own 5,500 homes and related buildings (garages, commercial shops, community centres etc) in Wyre Forest and have exciting and ambitious business expansion plans in and around the Wyre Forest District.

The Community Housing Group is one of the largest employers in the district. They have over 400 staff, many of which are long serving employees who transferred from the district council.

Righttrack created a comprehensive bespoke management development programme for 60 managers and supervisors to be implemented as part of a wider development initiative to help them fulfil their ambitious plans. The programme had to ensure that it met both the objectives of the organisation as well as the individual development needs of the delegate managers.

As most of the delegates were senior members of the team the Group wanted a modular management programme that challenged the delegates – breaking away from lecture based learning was a must. The programme needed to help delegates understand different management and leadership styles and generally increase performance levels – they wanted delegates to get a thirst for the organisation and their job roles.

The programme was specifically prepared and submitted to the Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM) for accreditation. The ILM approval adds to the motivation for the delegates to really buy-in to the learning initiative as they all receive personal recognition for the completion of the programme.

The modular programme began with a highly innovative and interactive outdoor experiential event – all 60 delegates spent 24 hours outside in the Worcestershire countryside, meeting the challenges they encountered, building shelters and sleeping outside. The exercise was rounded off with a full cooked English breakfast over the campfire in the morning. The learning from the experiential event was backed up by a series of training-room based modules focussing on a variety of management and leadership areas. As additional support, delegates also received one-to-one coaching to help them transfer their learning properly into their role and the Group.

The programme was received brilliantly, with all delegates fully embracing the learning and this was highlighted in their feedback. See below to read some of the delegates’ comments:

  • The course certainly changed my thinking on a number of issues relating to leadership
  • Enjoyable and enlightening experience. Great opportunities for getting to know work colleagues
  • Really good way to experience training and I am looking forward to the rest of the programme

Experiential events and ILM development awards are becoming increasingly popular with clients as they add that little bit extra to development initiatives. To find out more information on either subject, please get in touch.
