NEC Group

The NEC GroupThe NEC Group is a leading venue and events company with 4.5 million visitors annually. The business was entering a new era and wanted to bring renewed vitality to it's operations. A new leadership style was therefore required to lead and inspire people to achieve a new business focus and after a rigorous selection process retained Righttrack to design and deliver a leadership development programme.

To make sure that they got a strong buy-in from the delegates they wanted the learning to be fun and innovative. Therefore, to achieve the NEC’s objectives, Righttrack designed a leadership development programme consisting of four two-day modules over 5 months with the first module consisting of a high impact experiential event. This programme was delivered to 150 of their senior staff and middle managers.

The project also required training manuals to be designed so that NEC trainers could roll out the development programme to a wider audience. Coaching was also utilised to ensure the delegates were fully supported during the learning and changes within the organisation.

The programme was a smash hit for everyone, including the Righttrack team. It is projects like this that get us really excited. To find out what some of the delegates thought about the programme, see their quotes below:

  • Exceeded my expectations; it was not pompous as these things can be
  • Loved the programme - actually excited about using new tools!
  • The very best course ever!
  • I have thoroughly enjoyed this course and feel I have benefited from it. I hope to use the knowledge gained on a daily basis

Due to the success and excitement of the leadership development programme, the NEC commissioned Righttrack to design a visitor experience event that was on a par with the previous project. The event had to be fun, inspiring and be able to catch the imagination of their employees – resulting in a charismatic but real approach to visitor experience.

The event was to be a day long activity with delegates submerged in a multi-layered scenario. The scenario was set in St. Marks Square in Venice and each delegate group had a different job to do, with roles including street performers, tour representatives and a video production crew.

For example, the video production crew was tasked with making a commercial video of Venice, with the aim of enticing tourists to come and stay. Delegates had to focus on their visitor experience, showing their audience that they would receive an out of this world service. This was not the only activity that happened throughout the day but I am afraid the rest is a secret – you can be assured that nothing was as it seemed.

Both the NEC and their delegates loved the innovative approach taken to this subject. To find out how to add an element of fun and surprise to your development programmes, get in touch with the Righttrack team.
