Technology company uses 2010 Equality Act as a springboard for developing staff talents

Computacenter, Europe's leading independent provider of IT infrastructure services, has used the 2010 Equality Act as a springboard to tap into the talents of all its employees. With a workforce spread across multiple sites, the organisation recognised the benefits of training over five hundred managers to a consistent standard in Equality & Diversity.

The training, developed by Righttrack Consultancy and championed at board level, is part of Computacenter’s continuing drive to maintain and strengthen its leading position in the highly competitive IT market.

Barry Hoffman, Computacenter’s HR Director comments: “We need managers that are equipped with the skills and knowledge to tackle whatever comes at them effectively and with confidence against a background of constant change. We have a diverse workforce and from time to time we need to take stock; be mindful of how others think and feel, and sometimes realise that what is normal and everyday to us, isn’t always normal and everyday to everyone else.”

Using the 2010 Equality Act and corporate responsibility as drivers for change, Computacenter seized the opportunity to equip managers to lead a diverse population of employees. The training allowed managers to engage in serious discussion on the impacts, risks and benefits surrounding diversity issues and to understand the barriers and enablers to include and bring out the best in all employees within the organisation.

Computacenter anticipates the benefits of the training will include recruiting and retaining talent from all sections of society, as well as equipping managers to tackle issues surrounding inappropriate behaviour.
