The UK's biggest shop at home group, consisting of a wide variety of well known brands, required help in developing their graduate scheme. They wanted each graduate to embark on a two-year development plan, invlving them working in pairs in a series of three-month placements throughout the business
As part of this, they recognised that the graduates would require development in a broad range of subjects that would provide a practical ‘tool kit’ of techniques and skills. It had been decided that they would benefit from a modular learning programme spread over two years.
The overall aim of the programme was to deliver a broad range of up-to-date management skills and to increase confidence levels of the participants.
The solution was a bespoke graduate modular development programme, with the first 2 day module conisting of a custom designed redhotactive development programme called Catch Me If You Can.
Catch Me If You Can is a challenging and fun management and leadership essentials event that covers a broad range of different learning experiences and outcomes including:
- How effective leadership can inspire others to achieve high performance
- The differences between managing and leading
- How to motivate others in challenging circumstances
- Building and motivating a high performance team
- Setting objectives and planning
- Using others in the problem solving and decision making process
- Increased self awareness of own management/leadership skills and behaviour
During day one of this event, delegates are immersed in a live scenario. The group are a team of highly trained and effective personal security experts employed by the CEO of a large boat manufacturer. He has requested that the team protect his chief designer during his upcoming visit to the UK. The brand new boat plans that the designer is carrying are very valuable and must not be allowed to fall into the wrong hands.
This seems like a routine job, until it quickly emerges that someone is trying to get hold of both the designer and the plans!
Delegates take turns at leading and managing an ever changing picture as the group pitch their skills against their enemies. The activity ensures that managers demonstrate their natural behaviours to addressing the challenges, rather than use their adapted behaviours, which might be the case in a ‘class room’ environment.
The event twists and turns with new challenges arriving thick and fast. Will the team keep the designer safe? Will they protect the designs? Who is trying to get hold of them? All of this and more is revealed during the event which is held over the course of 2 days.
