| Leadership Development - Search & Rescue A redhotactive development programme. This is a highly challenging, very fast-paced event, which involves delegate managers in taking the leadership role to solve a series of challenges. The event is structured to enable all attendees to demonstrate their own individual approach to leadership and how they motivate other people to achieve objectives, when operating under challenging circumstances. |

A leading venue and events company was entering a new era and wanted to bring renewed vitality to it's operations. They had recognised that market trends were changing and customers were demanding more. Competition had also increased and the company was losing sales.
To address this, the CEO developed a five year plan, part of which focused on restoring health to the business. He recognised people needed to be developed in order to improve performance and business outcomes. The business also invested heavily in new buildings, IT systems, as well as introducing a new appraisal system and general competency framework.
The company had been successfully built on the traditions and management style of the Public Sector. The business had survived for 30 years, but with a new era the organisation had to behave as a private sector business. The CEO described managers as ‘Farmers’ and he needed ‘Hunters’.
A new leadership style was therefore required to lead and inspire people to achieve a new business focus. The Management Team were fantastic technical managers, however the only leadership that was evident was at executive level.
To make sure that they got a strong buy-in from the delegates they wanted the learning to be fun and innovative. Therefore Righttrack designed a leadership development programme consisting of four two-day modules over 5 months with the first module consisting of a high impact redhotactive event.
The solution was a bespoke modular leadership development programme, with the first 2 day module conisting of a custom designed redhotactive development programme called Search & Rescue.
Search & Rescue pushes delegates in many ways; being both mentally and physically challenging, it covers a broad range of different learning experiences which enable attendees to learn a great deal about themselves and their approach to leadership. It also enables everyone to appreciate why some approaches to leading people work better than others.
This powerful event was focussed on the following learning outcomes:
- How effective leadership can inspire others to achieve high performance
- How different leadership styles are required depending on the situation and environment
- How to motivate others in challenging circumstances
- The importance of planning in the role of a leader
- Increased self awareness of own management/leadership skills and behaviour
- Communication – getting the balance of sharing the broad picture and the detail
During day one of this event, delegates are immersed in a live scenario. Two members of MI6 have been under-cover, closely watching political prisoners who have been held in Brockhill Prison for the last 12 months. During this time, they have uncovered a network of anti-government propaganda rings, who are hell bent on causing disruption and confusion within the political arena.
A week ago, the British Government learned that these Agents had been exposed by one of the prison guards who is a Double Agent. Before the British Government could secure the release of the MI6 Agents, they were ‘sprung’ from the prison together with vital documentation relating to the network by the enemy.
The British Government understands that they’ve been captured and are being hidden against their will, somewhere on Brockhill Farm.
This incident has caused the British Government a lot of embarrassment and it is not clear exactly who is involved within the prison and whether any agents have been recruited from within the local police force. The British Army have therefore been brought in as a neutral force to deal with this situation. The delegates have been chosen as an elite force for a specific mission.
Mission Objectives:
- To locate and rescue the two MI6 Agents
- To locate and secure the information / documents the Agents were carrying
- To capture the enemy if possible – so that they can be interrogated further
- To capture any other evidence that may help to expose double agents operating within the area
Delegates work in sub groups in order to complete the challenge. Each individual will have an opportunity to lead their sub group and strongly influence the outcomes by their own leadership style. However, the decisions of the sub groups greatly impact on whether the overall objectives are met. The activity mirrors what happens in a company. The action is thick and fast, encouraging natural responses and behaviours to surface.
