Righttrack and Zain Creating a Workforce for Tomorrow

Zain, Kuwait ’s leading mobile operator, have set challenging targets for the coming year and to ensure that these are met they have been investing in their most important asset, their people.

Learning and development has been a major growth area in recent years within Kuwait and this is a trend that looks set to continue. The main reason for this is that employee development has direct links to employee retention, lower absence levels and more importantly higher levels of organisational success. Popular training topics include management, customer service and sales, with more and more organisations in Kuwait investing heavily in people development every year.

Righttrack Consultancy, a learning and development organisation based in the United Kingdom, have over 20 years’ experience in the training industry with many prestigious and diverse clients including Mercedes Benz and Gucci.

In addition, Righttrack have been working in Kuwait for the past 5 years. A strong mix of different development subjects have been delivered to a variety of clients including Kuwait Petroleum Corporation, the Institute of Banking Studies and the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development.

Throughout the second half of 2007 and early 2008, Righttrack have been working with Zain to create an innovative and engaging 3 module sales development programme for the company’s middle and senior sales managers. The programme is designed specifically around Zain’s objectives of ensuring that all aspects of the programme fully represent their learning goals and what Zain stands for as an organisation. This was inherently important, as Zain have recently rebranded the organisation from MTC Vodafone to incorporate all of their different operations under one name.

The main objectives within the development programme focused around leadership models, sales and communications. Zain did not want a traditional lecture based programme, as they wanted a high impact approach to their employees’ development. The key was to get sales managers motivated and excited about the implementation of their learning, ensuring they transfer their new skills into the workplace. Work based projects between modules aided the implementation of learning for Zain employees, who were heavily supported throughout the organisation, particularly by Zain’s HR department and top management.

Many aspects are important to consider when designing and implementing a learning and development programme and one of these is ensuring the right selection of training consultant. Righttrack have a large and diverse range of training consultants; each have differing areas of expertise and experience. For Zain’s development project, Mike Legge was selected. Mike has a wealth of experience in sales, both on an operational and training level, and also has previous experience in working in Kuwait, making him the ideal choice.

Feedback from the programme has been extremely positive from both the employees’ and the training consultant’s perspective. Mike said, “The course has been extremely successful and this is largely down to the people from Zain. Everyone embraced the programme positively with a great commitment to ensure that all modular activities and the whole programme was a great success. If I had to describe the general atmosphere of the course it would be of the strong spirit towards the implementation of the learning.”

This development programme has just been completed and the initial impact has been very positive with all delegates returning to work motivated, enthusiastic and ready to utilise their new skills. Both Righttrack and Zain look forward to seeing the results in the coming months.
