The client was about to launch a new comprehensive performance appraisal system ‘Appraise’ and required to work in partnership to design and implement a performance management programme for managers to ensure the implementation of ‘Appraise’ was a complete success.
Righttrack designed and implemented a very comprehensive development programme which was highly specific to the client’s new appraisal system and performance management procedures.
The project also included the preparation of a step by step training manual so that the learning could be kept alive and rolled out internally to new managers joining the business. The manual included all trainer support materials and masters.
The client confirmed that the project met all of the objectives and the in-house training team was able to keep the learning alive without the continual support of an external training provider.
The Pluss Organisation
Employment and training opportunities for people with disabilities
The client was keen to introduce comprehensive management development for the first line management team further to improve their people management skills and knowledge. Specifically in helping to drive the business forward by an increase in lateral thinking; through team motivation and teamwork, being more prominent leaders and managing more confidently.
Righttrack designed and implemented a management skills programme over seven modules which covered a broad range of subject areas required to address the learning need. A thread throughout was a focus on problem solving. In addition, one module focussed entirely on creative problem solving skills. Delegates worked on ‘live’ problems during the programme and applied the techniques as the learning unfolded. The content was practical and appropriate to this management level.
As a result of the development, improvements were observed in the business which included more cross divisional working amongst the management population; the use of problem solving techniques and decision making processes; and more emphasis on teamwork when solving problems.
Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development
State of Kuwait’s agency for the provision and administration of financial and technical assistance to developing countries
On behalf of the Kuwaiti Government, Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development operate a graduate development scheme developing over 60 architectural, bio medical and engineering graduates each year in preparation for working placements overseas. Graduates are then sent to all corners of the globe to gain 6 months of work experience, before being placed with high profile Kuwaiti organisations.
The development plan covers a broad range of business and interpersonal skills and part of the plan is a strong focus on Leading Teams and Team Building development.
Righttrack has designed and implemented various parts of the overall development plan over the last four years including many of the team related subject areas. Each of the programmes is prepared specially for this young audience most of whom have very little experience of the workplace. The programme design is appropriate to the Kuwaiti culture and mindful of the different cultures the delegates will encounter in other countries.
The programme content is highly participative, fast paced, delegate centred and inspirational.
Delegates like the participative and fun elements of the training and the opportunity to interact with other participants. We frequently get feedback from delegates via the Righttrack Delegate Membership updating us on their progress long after their programme has concluded. After five years Righttrack continue to implement programmes for this high profile and much valued client.
Taylor and Francis
Leading international academic publisher
A significant number of new managers were being recruited and the decision was taken to standardise interviewing and selection processes across the business. The requirement included improving the understanding of the legal aspects of selection, updating knowledge regarding the new selection process and addressing the interview skills gap.
Righttrack designed and implemented a bespoke recruitment and selection skills programme which was fully aligned with the organisation’s new approach and centred on the new process and procedures. The programme was rolled out over several years for all levels of management.
The project was eventually extended to include a step by step training manual which was designed for use by the client’s in-house training team. It evolved even further when the client decided to establish recruitment and selection learning using technology. Working in partnership with the client and a creative, technical company, Righttrack redesigned the learning intervention as a blended learning programme with e-learning and classroom based role-play and feedback.
The client was able to take full control of their own recruitment and selection development, without the on-going use of external providers. The e-learning also linked with the client’s internal HR system and provided appropriate statistics and evaluations.
The blended approach provided flexible learning for busy managers and reduced the amount of time delegates were in the training room.
The Community Housing Group
This major player in the social housing sector required a Finance for Non-Financial Management programme to prepare those managing budgets as part of their role in the organisation. The requirement was for the content to be readily useable, not too technical and appropriate for several management levels.
Righttrack designed and implemented a comprehensive ILM Approved programme which focused on understanding balance sheets; profit and loss accounts; cash flow and budgets; and communicating financial information to teams. The content was matched to the client organisation’s financial processes and preferences, as well as the type of financial language used internally.
To ensure the content was not too heavy, it was delivered in a fun and engaging way; even for those who had an instinctive aversion to the topic!
It was evident following the attendance at this programme that delegates had improved their understanding of the subject, as well as their confidence in preparing budgets. It resulted in a common understanding and use of financial language within the company.
Berneslai Homes
Berneslai Homes was seeking to work with external consultants to provide a bespoke Strategic Managers Leadership Development Programme, designed to meet the objectives of the organisation and meet individual development needs. The aim of the programme was to embed the organisation’s leadership competencies and develop the competency of managers to demonstrate the skill set.
Righttrack worked in partnership with Berneslai Homes and developed a programme designed to reflect the organisation’s values, corporate mission, leadership competencies and organisational strategic objectives.
The programme was structured as four, two-day modules preceded by a launch event. All modules were highly interactive, participative and pragmatic, drawing on delegates’ experiences as well as sharing new concepts and knowledge. Following each module delegates implemented a practical, work based assignment which related directly to the module content and individuals’ roles.
The programme was approved and recognised by the Institute of Leadership and Management.
The whole development intervention was extremely well received by all delegates who embraced the modules with enthusiasm. As the modules were delivered progress was measured by the outcomes of each assignment and the impact each had on the organisation. In addition, a 360 degree questionnaire was issued at the start of the project and then on completion which showed an overall 18% increase in leadership skills as observed by line managers and direct reports of those attending.

Vaillant Group required a leadership and management programme that focused on developing strong communication skills for their team of manufacturing line leaders. The overriding aim of the programme was to remove silo working practices and encourage line managers to work together as an unfaltering, communicative, consultative team.
Righttrack prepared and delivered a bespoke programme that, in order to minimise the impact on the day-to-day business, was structured as a series of modules.
The training kicked off with a 'bush-craft' style, experiential event. This was designed to raise awareness of personal styles and approaches, as well as the importance of valuing differences within the group. The training that followed focused on developing a range of capabilities required to work as and lead high performing teams.
The programme was a huge success within the business creating a marked improvement in delegate abilities, the scale of which was greater than anticipated by stakeholders. The organisation reported that the delegate managers are now able to function as a motivated, high-performing and supportive team; they have 'raised their game' in terms of managing individual teams and performance within individual manufacturing lines is high.
Betfair
Betfair identified that the managers of their relatively new Malta office were ready for management development. The course needed to cover a foundation of essential skills, be modular in format, and meet the needs of their prioritised management competence matrix. Betfair was particularly keen to see the learning transferred immediately following the training.
Righttrack’s proven first line management programme was used as the basis of this bespoke course. The project started with a 360 feedback questionnaire that was designed by the delegates in an initial workshop and the training then ran as 3 monthly 2-day modules. In addition to essential management topics it addressed Betfair-specific requirements such as managing in matrix organisations, time management, organisational skills and emotional intelligence.
The course participants reported a significant increase in confidence and many changes in the way they worked with one another, their line manager and their team members. The time management aspects of the programme gave them more time to manage and plan. Overall the course was considered an excellent investment in the personal development of the management team.
Gucci
Although the operational skills of the management team were well established, the client required people management and business skills development for this busy group of managers. The sizes of the delegate managers’ teams ranged from 4 to 60 people; the solution needed to be sensitive to the differences in the managers’ roles.
In addition to a bespoke solution, a key priority was to ensure the design was fitting to the high status of Gucci and reflected the ten very individual brands within the Gucci Group. It was crucial that the overall design was considerate of the competition that existed between some of the brands.
Righttrack designed a suite of modular programmes which met the client objectives. The programmes were very well received by delegates who liked the fast paced, interactive nature of the learning. Practical, work based assignments linked each of the modules and helped delegates to transfer the learning directly into their roles.
Attendance to the modules enabled delegates, all operational managers, to be more focussed on the performance management of their teams and individuals, as well as improvements in their overall confidence as managers. The client was highly satisfied that all the project objectives were met.

Walsall Housing Group (whg) was created resulting from the Midland’s largest and most successful transfer of social housing. The group has made considerable investment in improving services and customers’ satisfaction has doubled over the last six years. It continues to have a central role in driving the regeneration of the borough.
The executive identified the need for a consultancy to work with all its leaders to develop a change programme that will enable them to deliver the 2011 to 2014 corporate plan.
We started by spending time with the strategic leadership team to fully understand the organisation and the challenges for the future. Progressively, and working very closely with them, we have developed the seven phases of their change programme.
These include development for the executive team, engagement of the wider management population, building the change team, and change plan. With these phases in place, a programme to develop leadership capability will prepare the management population to engage all whg colleagues in the making the change plan happen.
The whg executive is now well advanced on the journey to develop each phase of the change plan. They are coordinating closely to engage the management team who report to them and are creating conditions to drive the change agenda and the next phases. The programme is also linking with the move to a new £9m BREEAM Excellent town office later in 2011 and all the changes that will bring.
More about Strategic Leadership

The NEC Group required an external provider with whom they could work closely to develop a bespoke management leadership training intervention tailored for three management groups: heads of department, first line managers and team leaders. The NEC Leadership Academy was to equip managers with the people management skills necessary to support the delivery of the business strategy.
Righttrack created a modular programme designed to challenge, inform, inspire and move managers out of their comfort zones. All was in line with the client value set, appraisal scheme and competencies. An innovative launch and sparkling graduation ceremony, ensured this learning event was high profile, memorable and effective.
Experiential training methods in the form of an outdoor, overnight event led managers to consider their leadership, communication and team-working skills and behaviours when confronted with different challenges and the unknown. The remaining three modules were training room based and supported by a major real-life, ongoing project.
Some senior managers contributed to the facilitation of the programmes and received coaching and mentoring. This helped to engender a culture of learning and development across the organisation.
At the end of the project, Righttrack provided the modules in manual format and trained the in-house training team to keep the earning alive and minimise reliance on an external provider going forward.
A survey carried out by the NEC Group clearly showed improvements in various ways including networking amongst managers; saving resources, fresh ideas and initiatives, motivation, morale, atmosphere, self-awareness, response to change and a shared common language. Managers also recognised a sense of ‘management community’ for the first time.
A better learning culture was established and a majority of managers said that their line managers were providing full coaching support.
Overall business improvements saw £2 million of new business and won several awards including ‘Best UK Conference Centre’, ‘Best UK Conference and Banqueting Staff’ and ‘Best Place to Work’ by Caterer and Hotel Keeper.
Righttrack has since worked in partnership on several projects with this high profile client.
